SPARKLES McCHICKEN!!!

Providence, Rhode Island; Easter Sunday 2009

I had only heard about Sparkles McChicken, the dancing chicken, from my friend Jenny Brown, the unreasonably beautiful and talented Providence-based singer and diva, and had only seen one picture of Sparkles online but, off my meds and prone to obsessing, that was all it took for me to fall madly in love with Sparkles. Since Sparkles is part chicken, I am well aware that this is probably a sin. When I heard that Sparkles was going to be performing in downtown Providence at someplace called the Dark Lady on Easter Sunday 2009, I had to be there. I was not disappointed. The Dark Lady was not, shall we say, the classiest of venues (I am still trying to forget the hardcore midget porn that they were projecting onto the walls) but my travels as a photographer have, on occasion, led me down some dark roads. Sparkles was magnificent. That chicken can dance and when she sheds her feathers, all the roosters at the bar would have been willing to fight each other to the death to get a closer look at her. As for me, I can't wait to see Sparkles again. I'd travel to the end of the Earth or at least to the Island of Dr. Moreau to see her perform again.
