A painter, photographer, sculptor, curator and graphic designer for hire, John Gonquin Nikolai resides in the Los Angeles area. He spent much of his life at CBGB and MIT, working at both for many years, initially at CBGB as a photographer and curator, and at MIT, teaching photography and graphic design.

His photography appears in magazines including Smithsonian Magazine, Rolling Stone, and PUNK Magazine and in books by a diversity of authors ranging from Noam Chomsky to Dee Dee Ramone. Bands who have used his photography as publicity photos or on or within CDs include The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, Public Enemy, WTFUKUSHIMA! and various others.

A nondenominational born again Christian, he had a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit and felt the presence of Jesus Christ, the son of God, in September 2013 and it has been a quite different, entirely new, and infinitely better life for him since.
